Future Fort Wayne Alumni Networking Events

 

A future Fort Wayne networking event will be held on Thursday, December 6 at DeBrand, Inc. , Auburn Park Drive at 6:00 p.m. Take this opportunity to taste the fine chocolates and beverages of DeBrand Chocolatier and tour the facility.

 

Future Merrillville Alumni Networking Events

 

The university will host a Merrillville “Back to School"/Alumni event on Thursday, July 19 at a Gary Southshore RailCats baseball game with a picnic starting at 5:30 p.m. (CDT) at U.S. Steel Yard, One Stadium Plaza, Gary, IN  46402. The price for the evening is $8 per person. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for this event, please contact the Alumni Office at 260-434-3276 or email aroy@sf.edu. Deadline for reserving tickets is Monday, July 16. After this deadline, tickets must be purchased with the RailCats Box Office at full price. Please take this opportunity to meet northwest Indiana alumni and current USF students and their families living in the northwest area.

 

 

Future Indianapolis Alumni Networking Events

 

The university will host an Indianapolis “Back to School”/Alumni event on Saturday, August 4 at the Fort Harrison State Park Cherry Tree Shelter beginning at noon. Take time out of your busy schedule and enjoy a fun-filled family afternoon. Activities include a moonwalk, yard games and picnic-style food. If you are interested in this free event, please RSVP by contacting the Alumni Office at 260-434-3276 or e-mail aroy@sf.edu. Please take this opportunity to meet Indianapolis alumni and current USF students and their families living in the Indianapolis area.

 

 

Athletic Hall of Fame Nominations

 

We are currently accepting nominations for Alumni athletes through July 30, 2007. To place a nomination please visit http://www.sf.edu/athletics/ and click the link on the right-hand side. You may also use the nomination form that is in the summer issue of Mirror magazine and mail the form to Bill Scott, Sports Information Director. The Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame dinner are combined this year and will be on Friday, October 12, 2007 beginning at 6 p.m.

Truth Between Opposition Exhibition Opening by Sandy Skoglund

The University of Saint Francis Presidential Gala

 

The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis has announced the opening of the Truth Between Opposition Exhibition opening by Sandy Skoglund, one of America’s foremost installation artists. Skoglund will personally install her work Breathing Glass, and attend the opening of her exhibition at the university’s Presidential Gala on Saturday, September 8 from 6-9p.m.  The exhibition will run through October 26th in the John P. Weatherhead Gallery of the Mimi and Ian Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communication.

 

The School of Creative Arts (SOCA) is an accredited school by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

 

 

Children's Saturday Morning Art Classes

 

The School of Creative Arts will offer children's art classes on Saturday mornings. The classes begin on Saturday, September 22nd (eleven week term) from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Students from grades 1 to 8 are eligible for the classes. The grades will be divided as follows: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8. The first child in the family is $75.00 and each additional child is $70.00. USF Day at the Zoo

 

The fourth annual Zoo Day will be held on Saturday, September 22 at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. The Zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 2 through 14. Children under 2 are free. Price includes one complimentary ride on one of the following: train, sky ride, carousel, or river ride. The USF lunch and activities will be located at the Foellinger Theater lawn. A complimentary lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (turkey sandwich, chips, apple, drink, and cookie). Activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include balloons, face painting and more.  Tickets must be obtained through the university and cannot be purchased at the zoo. Cougar Football Road Trips 2007

 

Campus Ministry is sponsoring road trips for the following away football games:

      Saturday, September 29 vs. Ohio Dominican University/7:30 a.m. departure/$27 per person

      Saturday, October 20 vs. Walsh University/6:30 a.m. departure/$35 per person

      Saturday, November 3 vs. Malone College/11 a.m. departure/$35 per person

Homecoming Weekend 2007 - "Cougfest"

 

Homecoming 2007 will begin on Friday, October 12 with a new program called "Classes without Quizzes" from 3 to 5 p.m. This will give the alumni and their spouses a chance to go back into the classroom without quizzes or tuition fees. The Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame have been combined and will kickoff the Homecoming weekend! The Awards dinner begins at 6 p.m. and will be located at the North Campus (formerly Abundant Life Tabernacle). Alumni will need to make reservations for this banquet.

 

On Saturday, October 13, 2007, we will have an Alumni Tent at the football game, alumni athletics games throughout the day, and an Alumni Family Barbeque in the afternoon from 4 to 8 p.m. Look for more information in future publications.

News and Notes

 

 

1970's:

 

Dr. Jeanne M. Zehr (BA '75) received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from Indiana State University. She earned a doctorate degree in Educational Administration. The title of her dissertation is "No Child's Intelligence Left Behind: The Impact of Instrumental Enrichment Training on Teacher Belief Systems."

 

 

1980's:

 

Mary (Johnson) Edwards (BS '89) recently participated in and completed the Green Bay Marathon (26.2 miles), There was approximately 7,000 runners participating in the 5K. The cool part was that around the 9th mile of the race, she stopped at the port-a-pot and was talking to other runners while waiting. While leaving the area, another runner stopped her and it happened to be a former SFC student, Sara Miller, who attended college for a short time with Mary. It just goes to show that it is a "small world."

 

 

1990's:

 

Jessica (Meyer) Swinford (BBA '98) recently was promoted to Assistant Alumni Director for the University of Saint Francis.

 

Jeff Dollens (BA '99) works at Excell Color Graphics and had the opportunity to design the Marketing materials and logo for the Mad Ants NBA Development League team.

 

2000's:

 

Gretchen (Miller) Diallo (BSN '00) RN, OCN has been an oncology nurse for the last seven years and works at Johnson Memorial Hospital in the Cancer Care Center in Franklin, Indiana. Gretchen received her oncology certification in 2005 and went to the ONS congress this year in Las Vegas. Gretchen was nominated as "Nurse of the Year" in 2006 and won the award for the hospital's oncology department in 2006. Recently it was announced that she would be taking over the nursing role of the Cancer Committee. JMH Cancer Care Center is one of three centers in the state of Indiana to be an accredited facility. Gretchen was married in 2003. She had her first child, a boy, in 2005 and has a step-daughter who is 16.

 

Robin (Alexander) Heggler (BBA '03) recently earned her MBA from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
