Future Fort Wayne Alumni Networking Events

 

The university is hosting a USF Night at a Mad Ants basketball game on Thursday, February 19 at the Memorial Coliseum. Tickets are $5 per person and include a free hotdog and soda for that evening only. Game time is 7 p.m. To purchase tickets, please contact the Alumni Office at 360-399-7700, ext. 6402 or email twalzer@sf.edu. Deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, February 16.

Wear your USF gear for an opportunity to participate in special activities on the basketball court. Also, children age 2-12 can participate in the 'High Five Tunnel' during introductions.

 

 

The university is planning to sponsor a future Fort Wayne Alumni Networking event on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Fort Wayne TinCaps Parkview Field. We will have one section of seating reserved for us. Game time is 7:05 p.m., and the ticket price is $7.00. Entertainment scheduled is QuickChange (from American's Got Talent) and fireworks after the game. If you are interested, please contact the Alumni Office at 260-399-7700, ext. 6402. 

 

 

Future Merrillville Alumni Networking Events

 

The university will host a Merrillville alumni, student, and family event on Friday, March 13, 2009 at a Chicago Blackhawks game, United Center, 1901 W. Madison Street, Chicago, Illinois. Tickets are $20 per person and will be in the 300 level (2) section. RSVP deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, March 9. The university does not accept credit cards to purchase tickets. Future Indianapolis Alumni Networking Events

 

 

 

The university is planning to sponsor an Indianapolis Alumni family event on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Indianapolis Zoo, W. Washington Street. Lunch will be provided in the Education Suites A & C located inside of the Zoo from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Further details on price of tickets will be available at a later date.

 

 

USF Special Order License Plate--CHANGES TO PROCESS

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Great News!

The State of Indiana is streamlining its license plate program, and now you can renew your University of Saint Francis license plate online or at your area branch of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles without an authorization form from the Alumni Office.

The $25 fee for your USF plate will be added to the registration fees charged by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. If you already have a special plate your renewal form will come in the mail with your fee already included in the payment amount.

 

You can renew your plate or order a USF license plate. If you do not already have one, go online at www.state.in.us/bmv. Go to license plates and scroll down to colleges and universities. Look for the USF plate and click the "online" link.

 

There will be no more authorization forms and you will not have to

send a check to the University of Saint Francis. We will receive a check from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to cover your donation to university.

Acclaimed Photographer Peter Turnley to Visit USF

 

Award-winning photographer Peter Turnley will visit the university for two weeks in February as a visiting artist. While on campus from February 2 through 13, he will meet with students and faculty, host a roundtable discussion with the Fort Wayne Photographer's Club, meet with local high school teachers, conduct workshops for student photographers and present two, free public lectures in the Closer Look Lecture Series.

 

On Thursday, February 12, Turnley will present, "Visualizing Conflict-Images of War and Conflict by Peter Turnley" which includes images from the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Chechnya, Gulf War 1991, Iraq War, Kosovo, and International Civil Strife. This presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium. 

 

Following both lectures, Turnley will participate in a formal book signing of some of his published works, specifically, McClellan Street, a photo-essay that Peter co-authored with his brother David. The book contains more than 100 black-and-white images of a former working-class neighborhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana, that the two brothers documented in the 1970s.

 

 

Alumni and Faculty Art Exhibition at USF

 

This annual tradition showcases new work by alumni and faculty of the School of Creative Arts. A wide variety of media will be on display. The exhibition will run through Sunday, February 22. There is no charge for admission. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.

Painting and Stained Glass Classes Offered at USF

 

The School of Creative Arts will offer continuing education classes: "Introduction to Portrait Painting," "Introduction to Watercolor Painting" and "Introduction to Stained Glass" on weekends throughout the months of February, March and April in the Rolland Art Center off Leesburg Road.

 

The "Introduction to Portrait Painting" and "Introduction to Watercolor Painting" classes will be taught by Austin G. Pittman, a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Pittman is a classically trained artist who excels in portraiture and has extensive experience in the field.

 

"Introduction to Portrait Painting" classes will be held over ten sessions on Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from February 14 through April 25. The course will cost $275 and does not include supplies. "Introduction to Watercolor" classes will be held over ten sessions on Sunday afternoons, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. from February 15 through April 26. The course will cost $275 and does not include supplies. No class sessions will be held over Easter weekend.

 

"Introduction to Stained Glass" is taught by practicing artist Rhonda Freeman, who has worked in glass for more than 30 years with expertise in hot glass, blown glass, leaded glass, foiled glass, and mosaic. It will be held on five Sunday afternoons beginning February 22 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The course includes design principles, types and qualities of glass, basic cutting and construction techniques, and a final project—a finished 18 x 24 inch glass panel. All tools and glass will be provided for in-class use. The cost of the course is $145, which includes supplies and instruction.

Explore the Life of Christ through Imagination at USF Lecture

 

The university will host a lecture by Sister Jacinta Krecek, Assistant Professor of Theology, entitled
"Meeting Jesus in St. Bonaventure's Tree of Life" on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium.

 

Sister Jacinta will examine how St. Bonaventure's Tree of Life (Lignum Vitae, 1260) invites us to explore the life of Christ
through the power of imagination and how this approach can draw us toward a deeper understanding of God, as well as ourselves.

Easter Baskets

 

 Every year the Northern Alumni Directors deliver Easter baskets to children who might otherwise not experience the joy of finding a basket on Easter morning. This year, we will be distributing baskets to SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) on April 7. We are in need of 500 wrapped Easter baskets, with each piece of candy individually wrapped, by March 31. These baskets can be dropped off at USF at the reception desk in Trinity Hall or any other university that is convenient to you, IPFW, Ivy Tech, Trine, Huntington, Grace, Manchester or Indiana Wesleyan. Winners Announced for Student Business Plan Competition

 

The Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership announced the winners of its first annual
student business plan competition.

 

The first place team was Justin Adams of Fort Wayne and Marty Wyss of Ada, Ohio for their business plan,

"Tersus Terra Energies." Second place went to Kelly Crosson of Convoy, Ohio and Lacey Shewman of Akron,
Indiana for "Trash to Treasure" and capturing third place was the plan "GreenTee" by Erich Phodes of Kendallville,
Indiana and Jessica Teubert of Jonesville, Michigan.

 

Ten students competed for prizes totaling $3,000. The theme for this year centered on green technology--organic,
energy conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable energy.

 

"Tersus Terra Energies" will be entered into national competitions. The actual judging was based on the written plan
entailing the description of the business, location, marketing, strategy, management, and financials.

Bass Mansion Memories

 

Do you have a Bass Mansion memory?  If so, we would love to hear from you. Many of you spent hours in the Library during your college days. Is there something special, funny, scary, or entertaining that happened while you were in the Bass Mansion? If so, would you please share your story with us? If you are interested in buying a copy of the 2007 Memories booklet, please send a $5.00 donation to the above address, and Sister Marilyn will mail the copy to you. Hollywood Computer Animator and USF Alumnus Spoke to University in December

 

Adam Green (BA '02) a computer animator for Walt Disney Feature Animations and Twentieth Century Fox Animation visited USF on December 2, 2008 to talk about his career, the movie industry and various processes of animation.

 

Green had more recently worked on the upcoming Disney animated film Bolt, as well as Twentieth Century Fox Animation’s Horton Hears a Who, based on the Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) 1954 book which opened in theaters this past March. Green is currently working at Blue Sky Studios on Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Additionally, Green has worked as an animator for LucasArts on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360) and for Shaba Games as an animator on Shrek the Third (PS2, Xbox 360), Shrek Superslam (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC) and Northpoint: Shape Masters (DVD).

1970s:

 

Jane Avery (BSW '75) was named Journal Gazette's 2008 Citizen of the Year for her energetic and unfaltering drive to serve, even in these most challenging of times. (from The Journal Gazette-Sunday, December 28, 2008).

 

 

1980s:

 

Glenn Druhot (MS '85) has recently published two books: Career Directioning, A Practical Guide for Job Seekers and  What Will I Be When I Grow Up? He is a professional Career Coach and works with individuals nationally with their career development.

 

 

1990s:

 

Justin Johnson (BA '98) and his wife, Angie, had their first child, Gracie Nicole. She was 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.

 

Jason McLain (BS '98) and his wife, Hollie, had their first child, Marlie Kay McLain on December 11, 2008. She was 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 20 inches long.

 

Catherine Jantzen (MS '99) is the owner and a therapist at LifeWorks Counseling & Consulting, Inc.

 

 

2000s:

 

Amanda (Engle) Dauscher (BSN '01) and her husband, Brian, welcomed a daughter, Kiersten Lanae, on December 5, 2008. Kiersten weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

 

Ashlee (McClure) Haney (AS '07, BS '07) and her husband Johnathan, welcomed a daughter, Addison Ann, on April 4, 2008. Addison was 7 pounds, 5 ounces.

 

Natalie (Mason) Wagoner (BBA '07) and her husband Eric Wagoner (BBA '08) are the proud parents of Hadley Mae Wagoner, born on Thursday, January 29. Hadley was 7 pounds, 14 ounces and 21 ¾ inches long.
