Schouweiler Memorial Planetarium to
Kick Off Weekend with Shows

Wayne, Indiana: The Edwin C. Schouweiler Memorial
Planetarium in Achatz Hall of Science off Leesburg Road
will host four exciting planetarium shows for the area’s
sky-lovers.
Family Matinee,
Friday, July 18, 3:30 p.m.:
Zubenelgenubi’s Magical Sky is a new show
specifically designed for young children (pre-K through
first grade) making their first planetarium visit and
their adult friends. Children will meet a talking
telephone pole, a squirting fireplug and other cartoon
characters. The characters will explore the Sun, Moon
and several wonders of our world. ZUBE is
presented with subdued lighting and is designed to ease
younger first-time visitors into the planetarium
experience. The show is approximately 23 minutes in
length.
Friday, July 18,
7 p.m.:
Explorers of Mauna Kea
takes you to the “Big Island” of Hawaii to tour the top
of the tallest mountain on earth and the astronomical
telescopes at its summit. Meet the astronomers that use
the telescopes and hear about their discoveries. The
show includes Hawaiian lore and legends. Explorers of
Mauna Kea is for adults and children in fifth grade
or older.

Saturday, July 19, 3:30 p.m.:
A Solar System Adventure Tour is designed for
second through fourth graders and their adult friends.
The show is an interactive tour of all the planets of
the solar system, with a stop on the moon.
Saturday, July
19, 7 p.m.: Aurora
reveals the secrets of the lights as an unraveling
historical mystery voyage of scientific discovery.
Experience the Aurora Borealis and discover the forces
of nature that create the aurora. Recent facility
upgrades have included the installation of several
aurora effects projectors, which enable the audience to
experience the Northern Lights in color. This show is
for adults and children in fifth grade or older.
All planetarium
shows include a live presentation by a member of the
planetarium staff to help find objects currently visible
in the Fort Wayne night sky. Early arrivals for tickets
will have an opportunity to view brief informational
presentations related to the evening’s show and or/ a
current space exploration topic. Weather and sky
conditions permitting, evening shows may offer an
additional outside sky-watching experience conducted by
planetarium staff.
Admission is $4 for
adults, $3 for children under 18 and $3 for senior
citizens with a maximum of $14 per family. Please arrive
to be seated prior to each show’s starting time, as the
box office will close once the show begins. For more
