July 16, 2008, Fort Wayne, Indiana: The Edwin C. Schouweiler Memorial Planetarium in Achatz Hall of Science off Leesburg Road will host four exciting planetarium shows for the area’s sky-lovers.

Family Matinee, Friday, July 18, 3:30 p.m.: Zubenelgenubi’s Magical Sky is a new show specifically designed for young children (pre-K through first grade) making their first planetarium visit and their adult friends. Children will meet a talking telephone pole, a squirting fireplug and other cartoon characters. The characters will explore the Sun, Moon and several wonders of our world. ZUBE is presented with subdued lighting and is designed to ease younger first-time visitors into the planetarium experience. The show is approximately 23 minutes in length.

Friday, July 18, 7 p.m.:  Explorers of Mauna Kea takes you to the “Big Island” of Hawaii to tour the top of the tallest mountain on earth and the astronomical telescopes at its summit. Meet the astronomers that use the telescopes and hear about their discoveries. The show includes Hawaiian lore and legends. Explorers of Mauna Kea is for adults and children in fifth grade or older.

Family Matinee, Saturday, July 19, 3:30 p.m.: A Solar System Adventure Tour is designed for second through fourth graders and their adult friends. The show is an interactive tour of all the planets of the solar system, with a stop on the moon.

Saturday, July 19, 7 p.m.: Aurora reveals the secrets of the lights as an unraveling historical mystery voyage of scientific discovery. This show is for adults and children in fifth grade or older.

All planetarium shows include a live presentation by a member of the planetarium staff to help find objects currently visible in the Fort Wayne night sky. Early arrivals for tickets will have an opportunity to view brief informational presentations related to the evening’s show and or/ a current space exploration topic. Weather and sky conditions permitting, evening shows may offer an additional outside sky-watching experience conducted by planetarium staff.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children under 18 and $3 for senior citizens with a maximum of $14 per family. Please arrive to be seated prior to each show’s starting time, as the box office will close once the show begins.
